Description Dinsdagochtend vroeg vertrokken naar Valle del Chota en Pimamiro, via Ibarra en Otovalo, ongeveer drie en een half uur met de bus. In Ibarra even een tussenstop gemaakt omdat ik een adres wist waar ik even lang kon gaan, en dat is gelukt. Ondanks dat niemand daar een woord Engels spreekt is alle communicatie goed gegaan. Op weg naar Pimampiro kom je door de Valle del Chota, het was niet duidelijk op de kaart, Valle del Chota staat niet op de kaart en de Rio Chota was 'linksaf', dus ik heb geluk gehad dat ik niet de verkeerde kant op ben gegaan vanaf Salinas (in de provincie Imbabura, niet die aan de kust). Van de buschauffeur mocht ik voorin zitten om goed te kijken en foto's te maken. Ik had gehoord dat ze in Valle del Chota, de armste streek van Ecuador, alleen maar hutten zouden hebben. Vandaar dat ik vooral keek of er 'redelijke' huizen staan, en heb daar foto's van gemaakt. Valle del Chota is ook uniek omdat daar de nakomelingen wonen van een slavenschip dat ergens in de 17e eeuw uit koers zou zijn geraakt, dus zwarte mensen in plaats van indianen. We hadden er in 2000 al van gehoord, en heb toen nog en rekensommetje gemaakt om te laten zien dat slechts 1 schip inderdaad voor zoveel nakomelingen kan zorgen een paar eeuwen later (zie mijn verslag Ecuador 2000, ergens onze oudere website). Aangekomen in Pimampiro had ik opnieuw geluk, in plaat van eten of andere dingen dacht ik eerst maar te weten te komen waar de zaal staat. Ik belde een broeder en die wist me alleen te vertellen dat ik vanaf het plein ergens linksaf moest, maar ja, dat is natuurlijk maar hoe je staat... Even navraag gedaan, en op weg zag ik in de verte een jonge man met keurige kleding aan en tas in de hand, die gevolgd en daar verderop was inderdaad de zaal. Tot mijn verbazing bleek de zaal open en waren er broeders en zusters binnen, het bleek dat ze de school en dienstvergadering om 17.30 hebben. Nou, goed dat het zo is gelopen, 'savonds zou ik niemand gevonden hebben. Na afloop groepsfoto's en met twee broeders gepraat, en toen bleek dat de zaal in El Juncal morgenmiddag om 15.30 dezelfde vergadering heeft. Pimampiro zelf heeft niet het goede klimaat voor Karin, te vochtig met 1500 mm regen per jaar, maar omdat Valle del Chota alleen een groep heeft moest ik eerst naar Pimampiro voor contact.
